USS Mississinewa Recovery
Thursday, 2/14/2002

The Global / PCCI joint venture (GPC) is responding to a reported oil spill coming from the wreck of the Mississinewa (AO-59) sunk during World War II in the Ulithi Atoll, Federated States of Micronesia. GPC has responded with technical personnel, plugging tools, oil recovery equipment and a SEACOR-Smit support tug. Diving operations will be provided by the Navy’s Mobil Diving and Salvage Unit, Pearl Harbor. This operation will be completed in a few weeks. Last August a GPC / PCCI team surveyed the wreck, installed emergency patches, and recovered released oil.
